William Shakespear's comedies such as The Comedy of Errors, The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing etc. are not as well-known as his tragedies (Hamlet, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth). Nonetheless, all have been adapted into movies and today's post is about one of them in particular: Much Ado About Nothing.
I am not going to write the whole plot here as there are many characters and sub-plots as the title suggests. I can tell you however that it's a comedy which is directed by talented Kenneth Branagh who is well-known for his film adaptations of Shakespear's some other plays, namely Henry V (1989), Hamlet (1996), Love's Labour's Lost (2000) and As You Like It (2006).
* Cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Keanu Reeves, Kate Beckinsale, Denzel Washington and Michael Keaton.
* The bickering, the witty lines between Branagh and Thompson's characters is a delight to watch and Michael Keaton's Constable Dogberry is hilarious!
* The long take at the end of the movie, with the whole cast dancing, is a good touch!
Overall, an enjoyable film which gets a 7/10 from me.
